People have been naked all throughout history with the creation of man and Adam and Eve, being naked was just a natural way of life. It wasn’t looked at as being odd or anything of that nature. The term Naturism was used to establish nudism as a movement. The word was first used by Jean Baptiste Luc Planchon in 1778. The first documented Nudist organization was the “Fellowship of the Naked Trust” it was founded in India in 1891 and had merely 3 members when it first started out. The group eventually fell apart though when one of the members changed religions.

             In Germany naturism was reall starting to catch on, in fact they made a word for the movement called "Freikörperkultur". Naturism became very large in 1906 with the publication of papers which basically stated that nudist were healthier and happier with their lives so many people in Germany started to hop on the trend and embrace the nudist lifestyle. The naturist movement started forming in Britian in the 1920's. "The first move toward organized nudism occurred in 1922 when a small group of people led by Harold Claw Booth, Harold Sorenson, and Rex Wellbye began to meet in London to discuss the theory behind social nudism"(Morris 2). In 1927 a man by the name of Hans Suren wrote a book entitled "Man and Sunlight". This book was different from all the other books at its time; the reason being was because "It is emblematic of the international cross-fertizilation of ideas which were occuing between Britian and Germany [Freikörperkultur]"(Morris 2).

             After 1945 there was a huge pressure on governments to designate beaches for nudist use, this made the first nudist beaches come to life. In the United States there was a magazine in circulation called "American Sunbather" which told the ins and outs of naturism and the lifestyle. It was the largest and most circulated naturist publication in the world. By the time that 1951 rolled around many federations united to form the International Naturist Federation (INF). Some nudist didn’t want to join a club or organization thought and did their own thing. The effect of naturism started to spread all over and affected business owners who would start to cater to naturist seeing they may get the most enjoyment out of their beach resorts. In recent years’ natural nudist holiday’s have even grown to include cruises. Naturism has been around since the beginning of time but hasn’t really taken shape until recently. The reason Naturism has arose is do to the negative connotation attached to the word "Nudist" and the progression in which they are trying to take.
